PRD Interim – June Issue

MD DESK

We have reached the midpoint of 2020 and crossing over to the tail end of the year. This year has been remarkable in the amount of changes that have been initiated. These changes were not only adapted into governments and MSME’s but also to the household.
Talking about our operations we are full-fledged, in both Export and domestic factories moving ahead with a future focus. This has helped us with the time to plan in new ways which we have never tried before in terms of product innovation and new product development. Planning for new improvements in design structuring and with interdepartmental changes, we can bring in new themes in the adding value in our products and system. New steps in marketing strategies have also helped us in this COVID19 situation. Looking forward to accelerating with these newly executed strategies.

AROUND THE GLOBE - PRD IN IRAN

PRD IN IRAN is the new chapter for our company. Our new channel partner has a lot of potentials to support us in terms of sales and presence. Though it’s crucial time they have conducted an expo exclusively for mining. We succeeded to bring some fruits to our stall.
Mining in Iran is underdeveloped, yet the country is one of the most important mineral producers in the world, ranked among 15 major mineral-rich countries, holding some 68 types of minerals, 37 billion tonnes of proven reserves and more than 57 billion tonnes of potential reserves worth $770 billion in 2014. Mineral production contributes only 0.6 percent to the country’s GDP. Add other mining-related industries and this figure increases to just four percent (2005). Many factors have contributed to this, namely lack of suitable infrastructure, legal barriers, exploration difficulties, and government control overall resources.
The most important mines in Iran include coal, metallic minerals, sand and gravel, chemical minerals and salt. Khorasan has the most operating mines in Iran. Other large deposits which mostly remain underdeveloped are zinc (world’s largest), copper (world’s 9th-largest reserves in 2011, according to the Managing director of National Iranian Copper Industries Company), iron (world’s 12th largest in 2013 according to the US Geological Survey), uranium (world’s 10th largest) and lead (world’s 11th largest). Iran with roughly 1% of the world’s population holds more than 7% of the world’s total mineral reserves.

DOMESTIC NEWS - DOMESTIC MARKET

After Post Lockdown – Construction & Mining Sectors gradually started their operations. The Ingoing pandemic has created an unprecedented uncertainty in the domestic market related construction and mining sector.
Construction, Mining & Quarry sector most of the labors are migrant and it’s affecting the daily work as a result of that production has affected in respective segments.
In the view of above the demand for Minerals / Granite blocks etc. are expected to go high. Because of labor problems, the Mining / Quarry Owners are ready for mechanization – where in which we get an opportunity.
As far as granite segment is concerned mostly depend on china & European market where black Colour granite preferred by china and the Colour granites preferred by Europeans.
In the past few months, there is no export of granite blocks to any countries so the stock in respective countries has been liquidated. The demand for granite blocks is getting increased. So in order to meet the demand for production with less labor granite owner’s preference for our PRD HC 500M Machine are getting increased.
The major problem presently halting the business process is finance – most of the financiers have stopped/ in dilemma/ hesitate to lend loan to customers as a result of this, customers are not able to do investment/ procurement immediately.
Due to Travel restrictions, we have opted for digital marketing to reach / generate enquiries for our products.

WHAT’S NEW IN THE FACTORY - FIRE SAFETY EXERCISE

We are glad to appreciate the efforts of the entire team. We are happy to share the progress towards the aim of Quality Circle to make TPM through CI (Continuous Improvement) a reality. During June, we were able to organize an interesting team activity to ensure a strict fire safety protocol based on awareness and usage of the Fire Safety Systems.
With the help of our experts from M/s. Dharanees Fire Protection Engineers, Tirupur. They help us to have a real-life, first-hand experience of the fire and safety, with simulated fires and hands-on experience of using a fire extinguisher with total employee participation everyone had a mental preparedness to observe and recognize the fires and also understand the right use of Fire extinguishers. This, we have also been able to gain insight on proper fire safety infrastructure and legislation which we will implement shortly.

SERVICE. SUPPORT. SATISFACTION - ON THE SPOT SUPPORT DURING PANDEMIC IN KENYA

During the Pandemic, we are able to understand that the need for clean water and Sanitation to help in lifting the living standards the communities is at most, for which the uptime of your Water well drilling rigs are playing a substantial role.
However, PRD’s committed Experts are always understanding and eager to the extent the helpful hand effortlessly. The remote and restricted Plateaus of eastern Africa was the place our Kenyan Team had to send the engineer to work on the engine which was stalled due to a failure. However the experienced engineer checked the engine complaint which was raised by our customer that the was smoking a lot while drilling and went off by itself, he had found out that fuel mixed with the engine oil, although this was a looks like a major issue our expert was able to troubleshoot and solve the problem on the site itself then the machine was able to finish the borehole and the customer was very happy. PRD is proud to have committed Experts at the front end to provide true customer-centric service to enrich the lives of may communities.

TECHNICAL CORNER - DRILLING METHOD GUIDE

ROTARY DRILLING METHOD
The prime difference from other drilling methods is the absence of percussion. Rotary cutting, using fixed type claw or drag bits, is mainly used for soft rock which is cut by shearing. Rotary crushing uses tricone bits relying on crushing and spalling the rock. This is accomplished by transferring down force, known as pull down, to the bit while rotating in order to drive the teeth (commonly tungsten carbide type) into the hole bottom as the three cones rotate around their respective axis. The softer the rock the higher the rotation speed. The drill rigs need to be heavy to provide sufficient weight on bit. Generally, drilling below 152 mm (6 inches) is best accomplished by percussive drilling unless prevailing rock conditions are suited for rotary cutting. Rotary crushing is the prime choice for large diameter holes, above 254 mm (10 inches) in open pit mining, overburden stripping at coal mines, and deep well drilling.

Principle:
Rotation is provided by a hydraulic motor driven gearbox, called a rotary head that moves up and down the mast via a feed system, generating the pulldown required to give sufficient weight on the bit. Flushing of drill cuttings between the wall of the hole and the drill rods is normally made with compressed air.

DOWN-THE-HOLE METHOD
The down-the-hole method is a reliable way to drill both difficult and easy rock. The rock drill piston strikes the drill bit directly, while the hammer casing gives straight and stable guidance of the drill bit. This results in minimal deviation and greater hole wall stability, even in fissured or otherwise demanding rock. Since the annulus between the drill pipes and the hole wall is comparatively small, a high flushing velocity is maintained, which contributes further  to hole quality. Good hole quality enables the burden and spacing to be increased, which saves time and money. Straight holes make charging easier and enable the amount of explosive to be reduced. The reliable DTH method is an easy way to produce deep, straight holes.

Principle:
The hammer is situated down the hole in direct contact with the drill bit. The hammer piston strikes the drill bit resulting in an efficient transmission of the impact energy and insignificant power losses with the hole depth. The method is widely used for drilling long holes, not only for blasting, but also for water wells, shallow gas and oil wells, and for geo-thermal wells. In mining it is also developed for sampling using the reverse circulation technique (RC drilling).

TOP HAMMER METHOD
In percussive top hammer drilling the impact energy is generated when the piston is striking the shank adapter. This energy is transmitted from the rock drill via the shank adapter, drill steel and drill bit to the rock, where it is used for crushing. The entire system of rock drill, drill steel, and drill bit, rotation, feed force and flushing must harmonize for maximum drilling economy. The top hammer method is primarily used for drilling in hard rock for hole diameters up to 5 inch (127 mm), and the main advantage is the high penetration rate in good solid rock conditions. Handheld pneumatic rock drills are used for small hole diameters while rig mounted hydraulic rock drills are commonly used for hole diameters above 1 5/8 inch (41 mm). Heavy hydraulic rock drills with an impact power of up to 40kW are used for large hole diameters up to 5 inch.

Principle:
In the simplest of terms, the top hammer drilling method goes back to manually hitting the end of a drill steel with a sledge hammer. As recoil makes the rod jump back it is rotated to ensure that the hole is round. In a similar way the impact energy of the rock drill piston is transmitted to the drill bit in the form of shock waves. Drill cuttings are removed from the hole bottom by air or water flushing.

REVERSE CIRCULATION METHOD
Dual tube reverse circulation (RC) drilling is a method used for collecting rock chips to the surface for subsequent analysis. The air and rock chips are then blown past the bit and up through the centre of the drill string to the surface. Normally the air exhausts through a centrifugal classifier so that the rock chips and dust will be captured in a sampler. A sample of the rock chips can be collected in bags. The RC method is used for mineral exploration as an alternative to diamond core drilling. Special RC hammers were developed to improve the productivity and also to reduce the degree of sample contamination. With the RC hammer the cost of drilling is much less than diamond drilling and the penetration rates are an order of magnitude greater than diamond drills. For this reason, may drill campaigns start with reverse circulation drills.

Principle:
The hammer is situated down the hole in direct contact with the drill bit similar to the down-the hole method. The difference compared to DTH drilling is that the RC-hammer collected the exhaust air and the rock chips through an inner centre tube of the hammer and inside the drill string up to the surface where samples can be collected in bags. Flushing of the cuttings is done up through the chuck sleeve.

TECH FUTURE - MACHINE LEARNING

Machine Learning, deep learning, algorithms – you can no longer avoid these buzzwords when it comes to Industry 4.0.
Machine Learning is a sub-area of artificial intelligence, whereby the term refers to the ability of IT systems to independently find solutions to problems by recognizing patterns in databases. The required algorithms and data must be fed into the systems in advance and the respective analysis rules for the recognition of patterns in the data stock must be defined by the user.

How it works?
» Finding, extracting and summarizing relevant data
» Making predictions based on the analysis data
» Calculating probabilities for specific results
» Adapting to certain developments autonomously
» Optimizing processes based on recognized patterns
